The Old Body Style (OBS) Chevy platform (1988–1998) has become a cult favorite, blending 90s nostalgia with modern performance. For Randall Ruth, owner of T&R Custom & Collision in Van Buren, Arkansas, this era represents more than style—it’s personal history.

“I’ve done newer trucks, but I’ve always wanted something older—like the ones I grew up seeing,” Randall says. “My dad had one, and when I see these trucks, I think of the 80s and 90s and Boyd Coddington’s builds.”

That memory became the foundation for his 1991 Chevy C1500—a former shop truck turned full-blown SEMA Show build.

Built from the Ground Up

Randall’s team completely re-engineered the OBS with a custom one-off frame, Slam Specialties airbags, and Wilwood disc brakes. Power comes from a 5.3L LS engine with a performance cam, paired with the original 5-speed manual for a raw, driver-focused experience.

The Truck Guru Connection

Transforming a workhorse into a showpiece took the right network. Partnering with Cris Payne (Truck Guru) connected Randall to key sponsors and media opportunities. “From the first rendering to unloading at SEMA, Cris was there every step of the way,” Randall says.

Style, Color, and Craft

The exterior reflects Randall’s love for clean, timeless design. The body was shaved and smoothed, sprayed in a custom deep blue mixed in-house, and topped with a one-off phantom grille that drew major attention at SEMA. Inside, Arkansas Seat Cover crafted a peanut butter-tan leather interior to match the premium exterior vibe.

Rolling Strong on Venom Power

For traction and style, Randall fitted Intro Infamous 24-inch wheels wrapped in Venom Power Ragnarok GTS tires—255/30 up front and massive 405/25 in the rear. “I wanted that wide staggered look and a smooth ride,” he says. “These tires grip great, even when cruising low.”

The Burn and the Payoff

The build took countless late nights and weekends, but the payoff was worth it. With support from Venom Power Tires, Wilwood Disc Brakes, Kicker Audio, Holley Performance, and PPG Paint, Randall saw his dream truck showcased under the bright lights of SEMA.

Fans can experience the C1500 in person at Lonestar Throwdown (LST) this February, where it’ll continue to represent the ultimate fusion of 90s nostalgia and modern craftsmanship.
